What is gratitude?.Discuss with a family member definitions of gratitude. Think about how we can show gratitude in different ways, and for different things. Think about how do we feel when we give thanks? How does it feel to be someone who receives thanks?

Watch the video about the giving tree. Once you have watched it think about the following questions.

  • Did the boy always remember to show his thanks to the tree?
  •  Could he have shown his appreciation in a different way? How?
  • What could he be grateful to the tree for?
  •  Do you think the boy’s appreciation changed as the story went on?
  •  At the end what do you think the boy was most grateful for?
  • How was the tree grateful to the boy?
  • How did he show it?
  •  We can be thankful in lots of different ways, for example we might be grateful that we can help someone else.

Think about what you are grateful for? You could write what are grateful for on a leaf and colour it in and make your own family tree of gratitude.

Why were Mary Anning’s fossil findings important?

Fossils have been found by people throughout history.

It’s only in the last two hundred years that we have begun to understand what these fossils really are and how they formed.

In Mary Anning’s lifetime, palaeontology (the study of fossils) was still a very new field of ideas and theories.

Watch the video clip below to find out about Mary Anning.

Then either create a PowerPoint, short video or poster all about her. Include:

- Who was Mary Anning?

- What fossils did she find?

 -Why were her discoveries important?
