HT6 Summer term week 10 (29th - 3rd July)

This week, in maths, we are revising area and perimeter of shapes. In year 6 we learn the formula for the areas of 2 new types of shapes -  the area of a triangle and the area of a parallelogram. We start though by looking at composite or compound shapes - mainly rectilinear shapes.  Remember to check how the shapes are divided, find the area of each section and then add them together to get the whole shape.

Tuesday

Today we are looking at the area of triangles. can you remember the formula? There are different ways of writing it but it is basically 1/2 x base x height. Have a go at the worksheet and then see how far you can get with the mastery materials.

Wednesday

Today we are going to look at the area of a parallelogram. Can you remember the relationship between an oblong and a parallelogram. (Remember you can cut one end off and add it to the other!)
The formula is base x height.

Thursday

Today we are looking at working out the volume of different cuboids and comparing them. Remember to watch for  a change in units! The formula is length x breadth x height.

Math Antics - Volume

This video starts with the volume of cuboids which we focus on in Y6. If you continue to watch it, it covers the volume of some prisms and a sphere! This will be useful to you in Y7!

Friday

Today we are going to be doing some puzzles to finish the week! You need to complete the clues to find the code to escape the room.
